Sister Bernadette, Final Profession

Ridgetown, Ontario

When I was 18, God helped me to come back to Him. Little by little, my desire for prayer and my love for God was growing stronger and stronger. When I moved to university in the fall, I often attended morning Mass at a Convent before going to classes. I was attracted to the Religious Life. I saw the Sisters as the "special friends of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament". I was not sure at that point whether God was calling me to be a Sister or calling me to the married life, but towards the end of my second year, it seemed clear that my heart was to be for God alone.

One Sunday morning, after having already visited about four communities, the priest who had been directing me showed me a brochure for this community and asked what I thought. I said that I liked it. He picked up the phone and dialed. "Hello. Could I talk to the Mother Superior please? Hello. I have a young lady here who would like to come for a visit." Father proceeded to set a date that was agreeable to both parties. I visited during Holy Week of my third year of university and continued to visit until the happy day when I was able to enter.
I was attracted to this order because of their devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, and to Our Lady, and their fidelity to the Magisterium of the Church. I am now, by God's mercy, joined forever to Jesus Christ by Perpetual Vows. I pray that I will always be full of gratitude for the gift of my vocation to the Religious Life. O Sacred Heart of Jesus, we Thee implore, that we may ever love Thee more and more!
